Writing is nearly dead, but Gen AI isn’t the reason.
At least not fully.
The death sentence for the written word was delivered with the invention of the cellphone screen.
By the time they came up with the emoji, writing was on life support.
All Gen AI did was pull the plug.
Now, like Ivy League degrees, the trucker hat, and Mitch McConnell, writers are nearly insignificant.
Is there a chance of a comeback? Perhaps a nostalgia craze that will give a few of us some work on cruise ships or at an Orlando dinner theater?
Not if this trend continues. Great piece on the rise and fall of our reading culture: https://www.thefp.com/p/the-dawn-of-the-postliterate-society?utm_campaign=email-post&r=5xfow&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
